YOU CAN USUALLY count on ratings
to tell you a lot about quality.
Five stars means that a hotel
has frst-rate accommodations. A
favorable review can convey that a
restaurant has good food and service.
And for a hospital, earning The Joint
Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval
shows that it meets national standards
in patient care and safety.
“The Gold Seal of Approval means a
Joint Commission-accredited hospital
complies with the highest national
standards for safety and quality
of care,” says Jeff Conway, MPH,
Associate Director of Accreditation and
Certifcation Operations for The Joint
Commission. “Accreditation is a visible
demonstration to patients and the
community that a hospital is committed
to quality patient care.”
CENTEGRA MAKES THE GRADE

hospitals have earned The Joint
Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval:
Centegra Hospital – Woodstock and
Centegra Hospital – McHenry.

behavioral health care and Medicare/
Medicaid certifcation-based long-

stroke (Primary Stroke Center); and
certifcation in bariatric surgery and
heart failure treatment.
Centegra Hospital – McHenry has
hospital accreditation and offers an
accredited program in Home Care
and Advanced Certifcation in Stroke
(Primary Stroke Center).
HEART FAILURE PROGRAM
The most recent of these recognitions
was for the Centegra Hospital – McHenry
Heart Failure Program. This program
was surveyed by The Joint Commission
for disease-specifc care certifcation and
has received preliminary notifcation of
successful certifcation.
The voluntary survey included a
review of the clinical program that
delivers care to the heart failure
population. The commission also
verifed the program’s successful
compliance with national standards
and evidence-based clinical practice.
Neil Murphy, MHA, RN, Senior Vice
President and Chief Nursing Offcer,
recognized the entire multidisciplinary
team for the certifcation and for their
efforts toward making the program an
amazing success.
Accreditation and certifcation
from The Joint Commission is
recognized nationwide as a symbol of
quality that reflects an organization’s
commitment to meeting certain
performance standards.
INSTITUTES OF QUALITY
Two Centegra Health System
hospitals have been recognized by
Aetna and are now accepting insurance
for treatment and care. Aetna has
named Centegra Hospital – McHenry an
Institute of Quality Orthopedic Care—
Total Joint Replacement and Cardiac
Medical Intervention. In addition,
Centegra Hospital – Woodstock has met
Aetna’s criteria and has been designated
as an Institute of Quality Bariatric
Surgery Facility.
Aetna designates hospitals and
facilities in their network as Institutes
of Quality based upon evaluation of the
clinical performance and overall value
of these facilities. Furthermore, Aetna
recognizes the hospitals and facilities
in its network that offer specialized
clinical services for certain health
conditions. Facilities are selected for
their unique expertise in consistently
delivering evidence-based, safe care.
“Centegra Health System currently
offers state-of-the-art care to countless
community members, and with Aetna
acknowledging our Institutes of Quality,
we will be able to serve more residents
of the greater McHenry County,” says
Rachel Sebastian, Vice President of
Service Line Operations. “We look
forward to welcoming many new
patients to the Centegra family.”
